"Blue Dog" Democrat Ignoring Constituents, Group Says

EL DORADO, Ark. -- Local TEA Party leaders today expressed concern over what they perceive to be Rep. Mike Ross's last-minute cave-in on health care reform to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman. Ross and other supposedly conservative Blue Dog Democrats had held their ground against the trillion-dollar socialized medicine scheme until Wednesday, when Ross announced "an agreement has been reached."

"It is clear that the people of Arkansas and the nation are not happy with this legislation," said El Dorado TEA Party chairman John Wilson. "Constituents have dropped leaflets, made phone calls, and written letters showing our support of Congressman Ross's stand against a government takeover of our health care. Now we feel betrayed."

Wilson said taxpayers' concern is not just the cost, but the legislation itself.

"It is evident that Rep. Ross is not listening to the will of his constituents," he said. "This is bad legislation that will turn our healthcare system over to federal government control, and now his previous stand appears to have been nothing more than political theater."

"According to the Congressional Budget Office, Obama's socialized medicine and rationing scheme will cost taxpayers trillions of dollars, more than the total annual taxes now collected by the IRS," Wilson said. "This bill will ration healthcare, with long waiting periods and government bureaucrats deciding who is worth enough to society to get needed treatment. It will force private insurers out of business, denying the people of Arkansas freedom of choice in health care."

"People are angry and want Representative Ross to listen," he said. "Arkansas does not want Washington, D.C. telling us when and where we can receive medial treatment."

Wilson said that citizen activists will continue to lobby Ross when he's in the district over the August recess to listen to the people of the fourth district of Arkansas. He said they will continue to speak up against government-controlled healthcare "over the phone, by mail, at his district offices, or on his front doorstep, if necessary."
