Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens invades this Christmas

Star Wars will once again be invading the big screen as Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens comes to theatres worlwide this December 2015.  The Philippines will be lucky enough to view the new film on December 17, one day ahead of the U.S. opening.

The first Star Wars film was released on May 25, 1977 and followed by two sequels, "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi."  Sixteen years after in 1999, 3 additional films was released, "The Phantom Menace," "Attack of the Clones," and "Revenge of the Sith."  There was also a spin-off film entitled, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" released in 2008.

The Force Awakens will be the first of another tirlogy with Star Wars Episode VII scheduled to be released on May 26, 2017 and Episode IX on 2019.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is set approximately 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and features three new leads alongside characters returning from previous Star Wars films.  The setting is apt for the return of the old characters since they are also 30 years younger back then.

Here is the first trailer of the film:

Don't be surprised though because the original plan was for Star Wars to have 12 episodes, "The three most exciting stories were 7, 8 and 9. They had propulsive action, really interesting new worlds, new characters. I remember thinking, 'I want to see these 3 movies... The next series film would "involve Luke Skywalker in his 30s and 40," says Lucas biographer Dale Pollock.

Pollock also said that in 1980s he had read the outline to 12 Star Wars episodes planned by Lucas but he was required to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Now back to the Philippine opening of The Force Awakens, acording to sources from Walt Disney Studios Philippines and SM Cinemas revealed to InterAksyon that J.J. Abrams’ first “Star Wars” film will officially open in Philippine cinemas on December 17, one day before its scheduled U.S. opening.

Star wars fans will enjoy the showing until December 24, where it would be pulled out in favor of the MMFF but regular screenings will resume after the Filipino movie festival concludes its run in early January.  Don't be dismayed however because because, IMAX Cinemas located in SM malls at Aura Premier (Taguig City), Mall of Asia (Pasay City), South Mall (Las PiƱas), North EDSA (Quezon City), Clark (Pampanga), Cebu and Lanang Premier (Davao City) will continue to show “The Force Awakens” in 3D.
