Blu-ray Wins Over HD-DVD

It's finally over as Toshiba considers defeat of its High Definition DVD disks which promise to compete with Blu-ray. The HD-DVD is supposed to be a dual layer DVD with up to 30 Gigabytes capacity. However it seems to be no match for Sony's technology.

"This was a very difficult decision to make ... but when we thought about the trouble we would cause to consumers and our partners, we decided it was not right for us to keep going with such a small presence," Toshiba Chief Executive Atsutoshi Nishida told a news conference."

Sony's Blu-ray disc will now be the standard format for the next generation of high-definition video disc technology.
