Magdalo Registers as Political Party for 2010

MANILA, Philippines: Reformists group Magdalo is widening its participation in next year’s election after appearing on Thursday, September 3, before the Commission on Elections (Second Division) seeking approval of its registration as a political party.

“We are traversing all avenues to continue our fight to bring about genuine reforms in this country. We believe we have much to offer the Filipino people from the principles we stand for,” said former Air Force Lieutenant Francisco Ashley Acedillo, national spokesman for Magdalo.

Acedillo said the Comelec has received its petition and heard its oral arguments in favor of its accreditation as "Magdalo Para sa Pagbabago" Party.

“We are confident that our party will be able to participate in next year’s elections as a political party, or even as a partylist group. With the support we are getting from the Filipino public, our resolve to further advance the advocacies of Magdalo becomes much more resolute,” he said.

With the success of the election bid of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV in 2007, the group said it has already thrown support for five of its members who have announced plans to run for different positions in next year’s elections.

For the senate, the group will push for BGen. Danilo “Danny” Lim.

Running for their respective congressional seats are: Lt. Senior Grade James Layug (Taguig), Captain Dante Langkit (Kalinga) and Lt Ashley Acedillo (Cebu City).

Captain Gary Alejano is set to run for Mayor in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

Magdalo also supports the senate bid of Col. Ariel Querubin.
