Cory Aquino Transferred to Manila Cathedral

The wake of former Philippine President Corazon "Cory" Cojuangco-Aquino is now transferred to the Manila Cathedral. The coffin was moved out of La Salle Greenhills at around 12:30pm and reached the Manila Cathedral 4:00pm. Thousands of people flocked the streets and lined up just to see the passing convoy of Cory. In Ayala Ave., in Makati thousands of yellow confetti was showered as the convoy passed across buildings in the Philippine top business district. Millions of people here and abroad also watched the convoy directly through GMA Networks Livestreaming coverage of the Cory wake.

Makati Mayor Jojomar Binay gave a short message as the convoy stopped at Makati. He remembers how Cory remains an inspiration to everyone specially in the quest for true democracy.

As the convoy reached the Manila Bay in Manila, the Philippine Coast Guard gave a rousing salute by honking every ships horn in tribute to the former President.

Upon reaching the Manila Cathedral an opening ceremony was made by Bishop Soc Villegas and was followed by a mass. This is the first time that the Manila Cathedral held a wake for a non-member of the Clergy.

Public viewing will be held there until the former president is laid to reast on Wednesday, August 5.

President Gloria Macapagal_Arroyo has declared August 5 as a special non-working holiday.
