Anti-NUKE, Anti-BNPP Groups Stage ‘Salubong’ for Pro Nuke Investors

For two days, December 10 and 11, the country plays host to the Nuclear Power Forum 2010, designed to draw in investors and key players gearing to jumpstart ‘nuclear power business in the region’ – from financing to capability-building.

On December 10, anti-BNPP groups and anti-nuke groups will stage creative action at the grounds near Sofitel Hotel, the forum venue at ten am.

The groups include Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC), Kilusan para sa Pambansang Demokrasya (KILUSAN), GreenPeace and Partido Kalikasan (PK) which stand firm on their opposition to the operation of the controversial Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP).

The ‘salubong’ aims to dissuade ‘nuclear power profiteers’ from investing in the country especially since the 1986 Constitution is a nuclear-free zone.

Earlier, the groups have raised fears that going nuclear is a ‘false solution’ to climate change and that the renewable energy potential like solar, geothermal and hydro of the country is more than enough for the country’s energy needs.

One of the groups coordinating the event is Partido Kalikasan and for those who want to join the activity you can get in touch with them through Jules Penales, National Spokesperson at mobile number 09269415291 or through Roy Cabonegro, Secretary General at mobile number 09997541637.
