Government Ignores Sumilao Farmers: Shows The Kind of Regime GMA Has

For the farmers of Sumilao, Bukidnon all they wanted for were a piece of land which in the first place is really theirs. 144 hectares of land which was previously awarded to them, taken back, awarded and then taken back again was a show of how the government sees the poor people of this nation.

The farmers walked for more than 57 days with only a day to rest. They walked from Bukidnon in Mindanao to Manila in Luzon or a total of more than 1,500 kilometers. Some of them got sick, and some of their co-farmers leg get the danger of being amputated.

"Mas mabuti pa ang mga baboy may tinitirahan (The pigs are better off because they have a place to live.)" this was the reaction of one of the Sumilao farmers when asked to present their cause at an event for them in Atene de Manila. Their land is now owned by a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation and is being used as a piggery.

Few days ago the farmers went to see the president of at least a representative in Malacanang but no one entertained nor talked to them except a bunch of police which prevented them from getting close and like any ordinary rally was there and ready to disperse them.

Do people like them need to walk that far in order to be heard by the government? I don't think so.

What kind of president would allow this to happen? Simple, a president who does not care of her own people and who has a blind eye on what is really happening.

No wonder she is small because being small no doubt she also has a small heart. That is the genetic explanation for her actions. Poor farmers... poor Philippines.
