K-Yan is the ultimate All-in-One education equipment in the classroom

Creating a classroom which will be the center of learning for students is a dream for teachers, parents and the students themselves.  How can you create a classroom which can promote learning that is world class using a very minimal capital investment?  Will that even be possible?  Well, the answer is yes, it is possible through a Knowledge Vehicle known as K-Yan.

K-Yan All-in-One Device is a very innovative invention that takes learning to a whole new level.  Just imagine having a  multimedia computer, large format flat television, DVD/ VCD/ CD player, CD writer, projector, Internet, Video conferencing and Visual Audio System in just a single, easy to carry equipment.  This is the power of K-Yan All-in-One Device.

Vinea Distribution Inc. (VDI) conducted a soft launch of K-Yan in the Philippines, May 5 at Max's Glorietta 3.  Present at the event were various resellers as well as bloggers.  Manas "Manny" Arora, IL&FS Business Development Manager conducted a live presentation and demonstration of the product.

K-yan has been developed by IL&FS ETS in collaboration with IIT, Bombay, to meet the urgent need for a low-cost new media product, specially designed for group learning in schools and other learning communities.

"This machine combines a projector, a high-end personal computer, an interactive whiteboard and more into one machine.  It is a highly efficient device which can performs well even in extreme conditions such as lack of air-conditioning or even in dusty areas. 20,000 of the 26,000 units deployed are in rural areas of India where electricity is scarce and the device only runs via UPS," says Arora during the presentation.

How powerful is K-Yan All-in-One Device?

Projection.   The projector is of the highest quality in terms of brightness (lumens) and it allows the students to view content even in an open and bright classrooms.

The above specifications are all upgradable.

Portability.  The K-Yan is portable and less cumbersome to set up compard to laptops attached to projectors or fixed infrastructure like electronic white boards. Moreover, it can also be used outside classrooms for special events and movie shows.

Internet Access. The K-Yan supports broadband internet connectivity that allows the teacher to access the best content available on the web within the confines of the school.

Interactivity.  The K-Yan comes with an interactive feature that converts your wall or whiteboard into an interactive teaching surface. You can write, draw, highlight and move the content like a touch screen.

Cgeck out the video below demonstrating how the K-Yan can create wonders through its interactive whiteboard.

High Quality Sound.  The in-built loudspeakers eliminate the need for a separate audio system in each classroom.

Television.  The school can attach the K-Yan to a DTH connection to watch television channels, like National Geographic, Discovery, History Channel and other important educational programmes within the confines of a classroom.
  • Integrated TV Tuner with antenna connection

In summary, K-Yan is a Simple Uncomplicated Teaching Aid.  With all these hi-tech innovations built into one unit, the K-Yan remains a compact teaching aid designed to enable a teacher to focus on teaching rather than technology. At the touch of a button the teacher can toggle between multiple media like PC, TV and Internet to bring about an immersive classroom experience to the students.

The K-Yan has won the Indian Innovation Award 2005 and Maharashtra IT Award 2004 for the best community learning technology. The Outlook Magazine has also rated it as one of the top innovations that will change India. Over the past seven years, over 2,00,000 teachers in 8,000 government and private schools have been using the K-Yan to change the way their students learn in classrooms.

I am very impressed with this education device and I am highly recommending it to be used in schools.  Take note that you need not buy one K-Yan for every classroom since it is highly mobile and portable it can be used in multiple classes and multiple classrooms.

How much is the K-Yan? The suggested retail price of the device is around P200,000 more or less.  You might say that it is too expensive but take into account the cost if you would buy a projector, a television, an interactive whiteboard, a high end PC and all other devices included in the K-Yan separately?  It might be a bit cheaper but there is no substitute for its power of mobility and integration.
