Manny Pacquiao, his LGBT comments and his politics

I am a fan of Manny Pacquiao but what he did was indeed way overboard.  Some would say why did people not react that much when Vice Ganda said that Jessica Soho was a pig?  Well my answer is simple, Pacquiao is running for public office and he should set an example while Vice Ganda is an entertainer who is supposed to get attention to drive ratings up.  See the diffence?

After what he did, I have heard that Nike already severed ties with Pacquiao after he said that members of the LGBT community are worst than animals and later on that what they are doing are really a heinous act.

We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community. We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao.
This is his own personal belief and you could admire him for standing for his beliefs but as a public servant you are supposed to serve everyone and to be non-discriminatory.  We are not running a theocracy in the Philippines although the CBCP and the church kept on meddling with political affairs even Inglesia Ni Kristo during elections.

Journalist Ellen Tordesillas in her article recalled an interview with Manny Pacquiao in 2010 were he was asked why he had to be a congressman to help the people when he was already doing it without being in government.  Then he replied.

“Pera ko ang ginagastos ko. Kawawa naman ang pamilya ko.  Mauubos ang pera ko.” (I am using my own money and it might run out, my family will be left out with none.)
Tordesillas also noted how Pacquiao posted on Facebook a photo of a row of houses which he flaunts as a donation directly from him while the fact is these houses came from the coffers of the national government.

I’m so happy giving this (sic) houses free to my constituents in Sarangani Province from my own pocket more than thousand families are the beneficiaries. And I’m still building more because i always believe what the Bible says; 1 Peter 4:8-10 NIV. - See more at: http://www.ellentordesillas.com/2016/02/19/pacquiaos-abhorrent-remarks-could-be-blessing-in-disguise/#more-26169
So why are we publishing this?  Is this to discredit Pacquiao or is it a dirty propaganda?  No, it is not.  We are just informing everyone of the truth about the matter and it is our duty to be an informed electorate.

Do you know how many sessions Congressman Pacquiao attended during his tenure in the House of Representative this term?  Make a wild guess and if your guess is greater than 4 you will be wrong. Yes, dear readers he attended just 4 sessions in the entire 3 years of his service but he got the full salary and full benefits for the whole tenure.  Not even a regular employee could get away with that.

We could sympathize with Manny and yes we do but he should not have said that in the first place and he should have given back what is due to the people that elected him.  We already elected a President which had never passed a single law during his tenure as a lawmaker, so are we again to elect someone who has no regard for public office?

The answer and decision is all yours.
