USAID Supports Local Breastfeeding Campaign

In observance of Breastfeeding Month in August, women who recently gave birth participated in Hakab Na or the “Big Latch On” to create awareness on the health and economic benefits of breastfeeding and promote the importance of providing proper support to breastfeeding mothers with the goal of creating a breastfeeding nation.

Proud breastfeeding moms participating in the “Big Latch On” raise their hands after breastfeeding their babies for one full minute.

As part of the event, participating mothers simultaneously breastfed their babies for one full minute and then listened to an obstetrician/gynecologist who discussed the benefits of breastfeeding. The event is part of the maternal and child health program of Plaridel, which was developed and implemented with technical assistance from USAID.  The Province of Bulacan will continue to receive USAID technical assistance to train health service providers in lactation management, interpersonal communication and counseling, adolescent job aid, and supportive supervision in the future.
