Sen. Stabenow Introduces Tier 5 Extension in the US Senate

Americans Want to Work Act to Include Tier 5 Extension - US Senator Debbie Stabenow, a Democrat from Michigan introduces a new bill in the senate which will now include the Tier 5 extension which many 99ers are clamoring. The Americans Want to Work Act if passed and signed into law will extend unemployment insurance by at least 20 weeks.

The bill will also give business tax cuts and other benefits if they hire 99ers or those people who had been unemployed for an extended period of time. The Tier 5 extension bill extension is expected to be blocked once again by Republicans and use the argument of limiting federal deficits.

"Across our state, more than 35,000 people who have lost their jobs have also exhausted their unemployment insurance benefits. I know that these men and women want to work and have been trying their best to find jobs in this difficult economy," said Stabenow.

Sen. Stabenow is joined by fellow Democrat Senators in sponsoring the bill. Among the senators who co-sponsored the Tier 5 extension bill in the Americans Want to Work Act includes Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY), Harry Reid (D-NV), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Carl Levin (D-MI), Bob Casey (D-PA), Chris Dodd (D-CT), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Jack Reed (D-RI), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI).

Meanwhile, 99ers and those seeking for a Tier 5 Extension Bill will be holding their demonstration on Thursday, August 12 in New York. The event is expected to be attended by 99ers and those who are supporting the Tier 5 extension. (more details here)
