New DepEd Secretary to Meet Bishops Today

The newly installed Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary, Bro. Armin Luistro is set to attend the plenary assembly of the Catholic Bishop's Conference of the Philippines to hear the sentiments of the bishops regarding the sex education program this school year.

Luistro vowed to reconsider the implementation of the department's sex education program saying it's important to hear the sides of various concerned parties.

The new sex education program of DepEd was implemented this school year where public and private schools need to teach students from the grade school up about sex.

The move was met with criticism not only by the CBCP but the catholic church and parent's groups. They believe that teaching sex education is a "private matter" and that it should only be taught by parent's and not by teachers.
