Fidel Castro Makes First Public Appearance in Four Years

Written By David D'Angelo on Monday, July 12, 2010 | 7/12/2010

Cuban leader Fidel Castro made his first public appearance in four years as he visits a scientific facility in Havana. This was his first public appearance since December 2009. The images was posted Saturday by a pro-government blog.

Fidel Castro was seen in the image wearing a blue and white track suit and surrounded by workers of the National Center for Scientific Research. Castro appears to be healthy and jolly in almost all of the shots.

"Today we had the honor of Fidel paying a surprise visit to the center... He is thin but looks well and our boss said mentally he was doing very well," an unnamed blogger reported, saying the images were shot with a cell phone.

In 2008 Fidel Castro secede his powers as Cuba's head of State to his brother Raul Castro. However, Fidel Castro still heads the Cuba Communist Party and continues to write political columns for state media.
