Akbayan;s Etta Rosales to be Appointed in Commission on Human Rights

Etta Rosales, the three time Akbayan! Party list representative is being eyed to fill the vacancy left by DOJ Secretary Leila de Lima. Those who are backing the appointment of Rosales says that her wide background regarding human rights and human rights abuses will be very helpful to the commission.

Meanshile, reaffirmist left-leaning groups are already protesting the supposed appointment of Rosales. This however would be understandable since Rosales believes that human rights should be accorded to both state and non-state actors, a view which is not in consonance with the Maoist-Leninist left.

Etta Rosales believes that human rights violations of both those who are rebels like the CPP-NPA-NDF, MILF and others should be put to case and be given equal weight just like violations of the military.

Philippine President Noynoy Aquino is yet to make the formal announcement and appointment soon.
