Karim Amer, a young Egyptian blogger was sentenced to four years in prison for exercising his universal right to freedom of expression and participate in meaningful discussion. Egypt's government decided to imprison hum after he was charged of publishing materials critical of Islam and Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak.

A petition sponsored by Care2.com is gearing up to gather signatures of people in support of the release of blogger Karim Amer. With the petition is a letter to president Hosni Mubarak.

"Amer's actions are within his universal right to peacefully express his opinion, regardless of whether those opinions are critical of religious or political figures and ideals. While imprisoned, he has been beaten multiple times by a fellow prisoner and a prison guard, under the supervision of a prison officer," says the letter.
