"Avatar" Best Ever Movie of All Time
James Cameroon was the same director of Avatar and the former top-grosser, "Titanic."
To date, Avatar has grossed a worldwide takings $1.859bn (£1.15bn) in just six weeks versus Titanic's $1.843bn (£1.14bn).
Avatar also won the Golden Globe awards for best drama and best director and will likely be nominated for Oscar this year.
Meanwhile in China a mountain was officially renamed to commemorate the success of the film. The Southern Sky Column in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province, will now be known as the Avatar Hallelujah Mountain. Local officials said photographs of the mountain had been used as the basis for Avatar's fictional world of Pandora.
