Tropical Storm Ondoy (Ketsana) Devastates the Philippines

Millions of families are affected by the heavy flooding that was caused by Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) in the Philippines. It was the worst flooding ever in the Philippines in 42 years. The amount of rainfall in just 5 hours is equivalent to the total rainfall in a month as confirmed by PAGASA Weather Bureau Chief Nathaniel Cruz.

73 people were already confirmed dead due to the heavy flooding caused by Typhoon Ondoy. The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) and the Department of Education already declared NO CLASSES UNTIL TUESDAY on ALL LEVELS in Metro Manila and Rizal.  Laguna and Batangas also have NO CLASSES ON MONDAY.


Marikina's villages were flooded up to 2-storey high while the rest of Manila and Rizal were subjected to sever flooding as cars, houses, bridges and other infrastructure were submerged in water.

State of Calamity is already declared on the following provinces: Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Viscaya, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Quezon, Isabela, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Camarines Norte, Bataan and Metro Manila.

Actress, Cristine Reyes was one of those affected by the typhoon, she and her family had been in the roof of their Marikina Home for more than 12 hours. A member of Nicanor Perla's volunteer team, Grace Calleja and her family had also been rescued after grueling 7 hours in the roof of their 2-storey home at Batasan Hills, Quezon City.
