Noynoy Aquino for President - Mar Roxas for Vice President

Noynoy Aquino, the son of late president Cory Aquino and Senator Ninoy Aquino had declared his bid for the Philippine Presidency in 2010 at an early morning press conference in Club Filipino, Greenhills, San Juan. Members of his family and the liberal party including Mar Roxas and other supporters were present in his announcement.

The announcement occurred during the 40th day of the death of his mother, Cory Aquino. "Tinatanggap ko ang hiling ng sambayanan. Tinatanggap ko rin po ang bilin at habilin, tagubilin ng aking mga magulang. Tinatanggap ko ang responsibilidad na ituloy ang laban para sa bayan. Tinatanggap ko ang hamong mamuno sa labang ito. Bayang Pilipinas, tatakbo ako sa pagkapangulo sa darating na halalan," said Noynoy

(I accept the call of the people and the advice of my parents, and the responsibility to continue the fight for our nation. I accept the challenge to lead this fight. I will run for president in the coming elections.)

Noynoy also offered the Vice Presidential slot to former LP front runner Mar Roxas but Roxas did not immediately made a comment nor reply to the offer. He says that today is the day of Noynoy and that let it be that way.

Various groups had already started fund raising for Noynoy in fact during the press conference a certain Gloria Alcuaz of the group Kubol ng Pag-asa passed a can around marked "Piso para kay Noynoy (A peso for Noynoy)" to solicit contributions for the young senator's campaign.

Prof. Nereus Acosta, a top LP official and former representative of Bukidnon, said fund-raising drives for Noynoy's presidential campaign were going on in other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, presidential aspirant Nicanor "Nick" Perlas earlier made a challenge to Noynoy to resign the Liberat Party and join independent moves to select the true new politics candidate.

"I encourage Noynoy Aquino to resign from the Liberal Party, run as an independent presidential candidate, and join the on-going conversation and unification efforts among non-traditional presidential aspirants, political parties and movements. The Liberal Party, as a whole, is a traditional political party. Even if there are non-traditional politicians within it, they does not represent the interest of millions longing for new politics. A Noynoy candidacy within the Liberal Party will suppress the massive longing for a new politics", Perlas explained.

Other candidates also aspiring for the presidency in 2010 have already withdrawn their bid in favor of Noynoy, these includes Pampanga Governor Ed Panlilio, Gov. Grace Padaca and the latest Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay.
