Mayor Jejomar C. Binay said the event is a commemoration of the 35th Foundation Day of PYAP, which is recognized by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). PYAP is an organization of out-of-school youth (OSY) and disadvantaged children from the different municipalities, cities and regions nationwide, and provides the forum to discuss issues and concerns and implement programs and projects for the welfare and development of the youth.
“We are honored to be given the opportunity to host this special event for the OSY in the whole National Capital Region. It gives them the chance to interact with one another, and the various activities set for the day are sure to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship among them,” Binay said.
Binay said around 50 OSY delegates from each of the 17 local government units in the NCR are expected to participate in the event.
He said Makati will be represented by the JESB Youth Association, a barangay-based organization of OSY and other disadvantaged youth between the ages of 15 to 24 years old.
Binay said through this year’s national theme, “Galing ng Kabataang PYAP, Hamon sa Pandaigdigang Laban,” PYAP and its partner LGUs express their belief in the vast potential present in every youth that need only to be discovered, developed and harnessed in order to empower them to be globally competitive.
Marjorie de Veyra, chief of the Makati Social Welfare Department (MSWD) and concurrent City Administrator said that the members of the JESB Youth Association are mostly clientele of the MSWD.
De Veyra said that the city have several programs maintained for OSY; among them are peer-counseling, summer youth camp, volunteer community service and livelihood training. The most recent is the “Tinapay ng Bayan,” a bakery professional training, which aims for OSY to find gainful employment and ensure a stable income for them.
