Slumdog Millionaire Outwits The Dark Knight at Oscars 2009

ENTERTAINMENT MONDAY: The presentation seems boring to me and without much zest but nevertheless the 81st Annual Academy Awards did not fail to give the enthusiasm and surprise that it gives every year. Heath Ledger's triumph as the Best Supporting Actor for his role in Batman: The Dark Knight was heartwarming and rekindles the brilliance and greatness of an actor like him. His role in Brokerback Mountain was also worth mentioning but it was in being The Joker that he became one of Hollywood's greatest actors. The biggest winner of the night was the Warner Bro's outcast film, Slumdog Millionaire which took home 8 awards including Best Picture and Best Director. It seems that this time the fil with a budget of only 14 Million Dollars outwits the highly popular The Dark Knight and other films.

Slumdog Millionaire was a movie which almost never took off until Fox Searchlight took it and decided to release the film. From there on the movie captivated audience around the world and became a great hit.

It is also a movie which is receiving a high level of protest from India who sees the title of the film as an insult to India. Arindam Chaudhuri on his >blog states, "'Slumdog’ is just every scrap of dirt picked up from every corner and piled up together to try and hit back at the growing might of India. And the awards almost seem like a sadistic effort to show the world — look we knew that this was India, and these are the slumdogs we are outsourcing our jobs to," Chaudhuri is a management consultant and film producer.
