Philippines Wins Miss Earth, A Great Time for WCYF

GREEN TUESDAY: As the Philippines wins Miss Earth, Andy Moran, Project Assistant Coordinator of the World Creative Youth Forum (WCYF) 2009 sees it more timely to be holding an environmental conference focused on Education for Sustainable Development here in the Philippines. "It will be a great time that the Philippines really becomes one of the foremost supporters and pioneers of Sustainable Development. If we have Miss Earth then why not have the first WCYF as well?," Moran says.

The Philippines' Karla Paula Henry was crowned as this year's Miss Earth, during the Coronation Night held at the Clark Expo Ampitheater in Pampanga Sunday evening.

Henry bested 84 other contestants from all over the world, succeeding Canada's Jessica Trisko, Miss Earth 2007.

"Environmental knowledge is something that all of us must share, but most importantly we must teach the youth that this is something that we should instill in them so that in the near future they will be the ones to take care of our mother Earth," she said duringt he question and answer portion.

Meanwhile, David D'Angelo, Co-Chairperson of the WCYF 2009 Executive Committee congratulates Miss Earth 2009, "In behalf of the WCYF 2009 Executive Committee we send our congratulations to my kababayan, Karla Paula Henry in winning this years Miss Earth. It is with her winning and with WCYF that together the Philippines had become the forerunner of Environmental Education or Education for Sustainable Development."
